The C Clef is a "moveable" clef. It is called the C clef because it tells you where middle-C is. It is movable to give the best range for various instruments. In the past, all of the clefs where moveable. But they became so commonly used in the same position that over time people simply stopped moving them. The two most common clefs using the C Clef is the alto and tenor clef. (shown to the left) |
